Gift Expirations

How to set up, edit, cancel, and expire Snappy gifts.

Updated today

Setting expiration dates helps manage your budget and encourages recipients to claim their gifts promptly. When a gift expires, any associated funds are returned to your original billing method.

1. Setting Expiration by Campaign Type

You can define expiration rules during the Settings step of your campaign builder.

  • Spot Rewards & Scheduled Campaigns: Choose a Rolling Expiration (default is 60 days; min 7 days, max 2 years) or a Specific Date.

  • Automated Campaigns (Anniversary/Birthday): These use Rolling Expirations that expire at 23:59 PM UTC on the selected day.

  • Account Defaults: Admins can set a global default under Account Settings that applies to all new campaigns.

2. Tracking & Extending Gifts

Monitor and manage active gifts within the Gift Activity tab.

  • View: Check the "Expires at" column. Hover over the date to see the exact timestamp.

  • Extend: You can extend any unclaimed gift by 30 days.

    • Single: Hover over the gift β†’ click the three dots β†’ "Yes, extend."

    • Bulk: Select multiple recipients β†’ click "Extend expiration."

    • Note: Already expired gifts cannot be extended; a new gift must be sent.

3. Recipient Notifications

To drive higher claim rates, Snappy automatically handles the "hurry up" messaging:

  • Clear Visibility: The expiration date is shown in all emails, SMS, and on the gift claim page.

  • Automatic Reminders: Reminders are sent 7 days and 1 day before the gift expires.

  • Post-Expiration: No notification is sent once a gift officially expires.

4. Manual Expiration (Revoking a Gift)

Once expired, gifts cannot be unexpired or reactivated.

If you need to cancel a gift before it's claimed (or before the expiration date set):

  • Go to Gift Activity.

    • To expire a single gift: Hover over the recipient's entry, click the 3-dots icon on the right, and select the red Expire button.

    • To expire in bulk: Check the boxes next to the recipients' names (or check the box next to the "Recipient" column header to select all), then click Expire Gifts at the top of the table.

  • Funds: Unclaimed funds are immediately credited back to your account balance for future use.

If no active or redeemable gifts remain, you can initiate a refund request.
